Build Firmware
Download Code Here
http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2649
By rebuilding firmware, you can permanently enable SNMP and Telnet console. You have to use Linux A fresh Ubuntu will do. Here is the step by step plan.
1. Extract the source code downloaded from Netgear website. (http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101238.asp) You don't have to use terminal. 2. Go to terminal, extract the target.tar.bz2 by using sudo tar jxf target.tar.bz2 basically the command from README but with sudo. You have to use sudo. 3. Run your favourite text editor using administrator privilege. For Xubuntu (not Ubuntu), you type in: sudo mousepad 4. Open target/usr/etc/rcS 5. add these two line: /usr/sbin/utelnetd -d /usr/sbin/snmpd br0 ppp0 (the 1st command is to start up telnet console, the 2nd is for SNMP daemon/I never tried to only start up SNMP.if I start SNMP 1st,Telnet 2nd,it didn't quite work. If anyone has different result, tell me.) 6. use build.sh to build the new firmware. Usually you can type in: ./build.sh "DG834V3_V4.01.28.img" target newimage.img 7. flash newimage.img into your router.
If your router mysteriously breaks, you can recover it using the recovery tool.
Then we have to disable the IPtables filter
#iptables -L
Then
#iptables -D INPUT 1
